HAYES — Stephen Philip Stafford, a 41-year resident of Gloucester, died at his home on Sunday, April 22, 2001. Son of the late Stephen Barton and Helen Richardson Stafford, as well as great-nephew to Clara Barton, founder of the American Red Cross, he was 86. Mr. Stafford began his career in 1939 at the Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock Company, retiring in 1980 as a design engineer consultant. He attended Hebron Academy, Hebron, Maine, and Worcester Polytech Institute in Massachusetts. Philip was a 40-year member of the James River Hunt Club and Master of Hounds, serving several terms as president. In addition, he was an avid horseman, having taught riding lessons in Hampton for many years. Also, he was an avid fox hunter and promoted both sports through his teaching. He was a member of Abingdon Episcopal Church, participating in the adult choir and was a former warden. Immediate survivors include his wife of 60 years, Clara Fisher Stafford; one daughter, Anne Marple Stafford McCann and her husband, Robert, of Kill Devil Hills, N.C.; two sons, Samuel Philip Stafford, also of Kill Devil Hills, and John Barton Stafford of Hayes. A funeral service, was conducted by the Rev. Josephine A. Taylor, will be held at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at Abingdon Episcopal Church. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Hazel Cline Stafford, 95, of Harrisonburg died Sunday evening at Bridgewater Home.

She was born March 4, 1894, at Weyers Cave and was a daughter of the late Samuel I. and Lottie Huff Cline.
She lived in South Mills, N.C., for 25 years and had lived in Harrisonburg for 40 years. Mrs. Stafford had been employed in the business office at Rockingham Memorial Hospital before retiring and was a member of Harrisonburg Church of the Brethren.
Her husband, W.T. Stafford, died earlier.
Surviving are a daughter, Doris Stafford Sharber of Wilmington, Del.; two sisters, Dorothy Craun of Route 1, Mount Crawford and Patience Harshbarger of Harrisonburg;
a brother, Stanley B. Cline of Richmond; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted 1 p.m. today at Pleasant Valley Church of the Brethren Cemetery at Weyers Cave by the Rev. Guy West.
The family will receive friends at the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home.

Hazel M. Tillinghast, age 89, of Lawrenceville, PA, died Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at The Green Home, Wellsboro, PA. She was born July 31, 1925 in Wellsboro, PA, a daughter of Leonard and Hattie (Friends) Stafford. She was the wife of the late George W. Tillinghast. Hazel worked as a cook for Cuda's, Rotzell's and Schoonover's restaurants. She enjoyed cooking, plants, her cats, long rides in the country, ice cream cones and loved her family. Hazel is survived by a son, Gerald Tillinghast of Lawrenceville, PA; two daughters and sons-in-law, Bonnie and Danny Eldred of Ocala, FL, Ida Mae and Roger Fisher of Lawrenceville, PA; a sister, Esther Berry of Jackson Summit, PA; eight grandchildren, Patrick Fisher, Rogina Bonomo, Joshua (Mary) Fisher, Jody (Annie) Fisher, Heather (Chuck) Sorge, Gregory Fisher, Donna Tillinghast, Erica (Frank) Dibitetetto; 14 great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, George; two brothers, John and Howard Stafford. Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday, August 7, 2014 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at Buckheit Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc., 637 S. Main St., Mansfield, PA. Hazel Stafford McCraw, 93, died Monday, September 15, 2008, at the Lutheran Home in Winston-Salem, N.C. 

A memorial service celebrating her life will be held 11 a.m. Saturday September 20, at Pierce-Jefferson Funeral Home Chapel, 213 West Mountain Street, Kernersville, with Rev. Bobby Stafford officiating. Private interment services will be held in Guilford Memorial Park in Greensboro. 
Hazel was born in Guilford County, on January 21, 1915, to the late Sarah Gray and Jabe Suttle Stafford. She grew up on a farm with her five brothers and two sisters. 
Hazel and her late husband, Howard Cabe McCraw, were avid travelers who traveled throughout the U.S. and Canada by motorcycle, a car, and their light airplane. In 1954, they participated in an extensive amateurs light airplanes tour of South America. Hazel worked at various jobs where her travels took her. Her last job was at the Piedmont Triad International Airport. In 1986, Hazel enjoyed a cruise from New York to Australia. She enjoyed the outdoors, wildlife, flowers, and animals. She also loved to spoil her family and friends. 
She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Lindsay Harper, Marion Gray, and James Ned Stafford. 
Survivors include her sisters, Mary Stafford Coble of Greensboro and Jane Stafford Sporleder and her husband, Arnold of Kernersville; brothers, Dale Suttle Stafford of Whitsett and Elmer "Landis" Stafford and his wife, Rachel of Greensboro; numerous nieces and nephews; and a very close friend, Bill Jennings.

Her last job was at the Piedmont Triad International Airport. In 1986, Hazel enjoyed a cruise from New York to Australia. She enjoyed the outdoors, wildlife, flowers, and animals. She also loved to spoil her family and friends. 
She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Lindsay Harper, Marion Gray, and James Ned Stafford. 
Survivors include her sisters, Mary Stafford Coble of Greensboro and Jane Stafford Sporleder and her husband, Arnold of Kernersville; brothers, Dale Suttle Stafford of Whitsett and Elmer "Landis" Stafford and his wife, Rachel of Greensboro; numerous nieces and nephews; and a very close friend, Bill Jennings.
