The Harmons state that three other male relatives of Martin (possibly his father or brothers) came to the US during the same time frame, one of which was a George Sheets. They note that only two individuals named Sheets are listed as living in NC during 1762; Martin and George. Martin is shown on the 1762 Rowan County, NC Tax Roll and in the 1790 Rowan County census. He also is listed as "Head of Family", entry # 405, in the first US census taken in 1790, North Carolina, Rowan County: Head of Family-- Sheets, Martin Free white males 16 yrs. and up-- 2 Free white males under 16-- 1 Free white females (all ages)--7 Rowan County, NC Deed Book: Vol 7, page 478. Howard Emerson was in possession of a snapshot of me, Lona Emerson Lyon, sitting on Luther Emerson's knee in a rocking chair. It is probably in the possesion of his son, Clarence, since Howard's death. It is a very out'of'focus picture of and old-looking man and a baby with curly light hair. Lona B.
