Mrs. Stafford, who moved to Pickersgill about 12 years ago, remained active until the end of her life.

"She didn't smoke and only had an occasional glass of wine. She always ate properly and had good genes," said a daughter, Dorothy Stafford Peagler of Knoxville, Tenn.

Mrs. Stafford enjoyed writing letters to family members, cooking and dancing.

She was a member of the Baltimore Country Club for 50 years before resigning at 98, and she was also a member of the Woman's Club of Roland Park.
