She was 74 years old. Shirley was born July 12, 1934, in Klamath Falls to Marvin and Huldah Pippin, and also lived in Corvallis and Independence, where she graduated from Central High School in 1952. Shirley married Richard H. Dodele of Independence on Aug. 9, 1953, and they lived in Grants Pass and Redwood City, Calif., before settling in Beaverton in 1966. Richard and Shirley were married for 55 years. Shirley is survived by her husband, Richard H. Dodele; son and daughter-in-law, Richard M. and Kristina Dodele of Portland; granddaughter, Alyssa Rose; two sisters, Barbara Krauss of Grants Pass and Carol Bolinger of Douglas, Wyo.; and one brother, James Pippin of Portland. Another grandchild is expected in May. Shirley was employed at U.S. Bank for 29 years, and managed the Greenway branch. After retiring, she enjoyed traveling, shopping, dancing and gardening. She traveled to Europe, New Zealand, Mexico, Canada, and throughout the Western United States. Shirley and Richard were active members of the Beaverton Elks Club, where they frequently danced and visited with their many friends. Despite the continuing cancer treatments, Shirley remained energetic and positive, living a full and active life until recent months. 105928 | Originally published April 3, 2005 Dorothy C. Stafford, a homemaker and former gift shop owner, died of heart failure Wednesday at Pickersgill Retirement Community. She was 100. She was born Dorothy Causey in Baltimore and raised in Govans. She was a 1922 graduate of Towson High School and the Maryland Institute College of Art. She taught for several years at the old Towson Normal School before her 1927 marriage to Edward Edwards Stafford, a landscape contractor and cattle breeder. He died in 1974. The couple lived at a home in Pinehurst and at their farm in White Hall, Baltimore County, which they purchased in 1941. During the 1950s and 1960s, she owned the Valley Mart, a gift and garden establishment on Falls Road in Bare Hills. She was also a longtime volunteer at Keswick Multi-Care Center. Mrs. Stafford, who moved to Pickersgill about 12 years ago, remained active until the end of her life. "She didn't smoke and only had an occasional glass of wine. She always ate properly and had good genes," said a daughter, Dorothy Stafford Peagler of Knoxville, Tenn. Mrs. Stafford enjoyed writing letters to family members, cooking and dancing. She was a member of the Baltimore Country Club for 50 years before resigning at 98, and she was also a member of the Woman's Club of Roland Park. Mrs. Stafford was a longtime member of University Baptist Church, 3501 N. Charles St., where a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow. Survivors include another daughter, Susan Stafford Trew of Delano, Ky.; 13 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. FROM the Baltimore Sun Stafford, Dorothy C.
