He was surrounded by his loving family, friends and devoted staff. Dr. Gasque was a specialist in the field of occupational medicine, having been certified by the American Board of Preventive Medicine (Occupational Medicine) in 1957. During World War II, he was a Naval Medical Officer, serving aboard the U.S. battleship USS Wyoming in the Atlantic Theater. Again during the Korean conflict, he served in the Pacific aboard the aircraft carrier Oriskany. In 1945, Dr. Gasque began an association with Ecusta Paper Corporation as their first medical director. Later, after Ecusta was acquired by Olin Corporation, he moved to the corporate headquarters in New York City. At the time of his retirement in 1978, Dr. Gasque was vice president and director of health affairs of Olin Corporation. Dr. Gasque was a frequent contributor to occupational medical literature. His primary interest was related to employee health and medical administration. He was a former director of the American Academy of Occupational and Environmental Medicine. After his retirement from Olin Corporation, Dr. Gasque continued his professional career as a consultant to the legal profession in matters related to medicine and scientific litigation. Throughout his professional career, Dr. Gasque maintained a close association with the University of Virginia, from which he received his medical degree in 1944. He was named the recipient of the first Outstanding Medical Alumnus Award. He was a former president of the University of Virginia Medical Alumni Association and a founding trustee of the University of Virginia Medical School Foundation and president of the Foundation from 1979 to 1990. At the time of his death, he was a trustee emeritus of the Foundation. He was a member of Alpha Omega Alpha honor medical society and the Raven Society. In the late 1990s, Dr. Gasque and his wife, Georgia, were the sponsors and principal contributors to the establishment and furnishing of the University of Virginia Medical Alumni Association Headquarters at 1111 Main St. in Charlottesville, Va. He was a very gifted young man who wrote & arranged music and was well known for his singing abilities. He was dedicated to the Lord at a very early age. He sang with the Sentinels Quartet for 4 years and for the last 6 years sang with the Resurrection Quartet. He was a loving and caring husband to Joyce, his wife of almost 17 years. He loved his sons, Zack and Wesley and was a tremendous father to both of them. He was a young man who was highly respected not only by his family, but also by co-workers and friends. He worked at Walker Hardware in Springfield and was a member of First Baptist Church in Ridgetop, TN. A Celebration of his life will be held, Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at First Baptist Church in Ridgetop, TN at 2 PM with Rev. John Blackwell officiating. He was preceded in death by Paternal Grandparents, Hugh & Gertie Stafford. Mr. Holcomb, along with his deceased wife, enjoyed buying, selling and trading at area flea markets as well as the markets in Dublin and Hillsville, Va. Bruce also had a keen interest in the activities and progress of the children being treated at St. Jude's Hospital. Mr. Holcomb was a Korean War veteran having served with the U.S. Marine Corps and was a member of the local V.F.W. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Edna "Maggie" Holcomb on May 21, 2007; and a grandson, Bruce Leeper. 15483 | Bump Stafford, a Prineville resident passed away on Wednesday, July 4, 2012 at his home with his family by his side. He was 74 years of age. A Celebration of his Life will be held Saturday, July 28, 2012 at 10 a.m. at the Crook County High School Auditorium. A reception will follow for all family and friends at the Prineville Elk's Lodge. Willis Edward "Bump" Stafford was born on Jan. 23, 1938 in Horatio, Ark. to James Samuel and Bertha M. (Chandler) Stafford. The family moved from Arkansas when he was about 15 years of age to Prineville, where he got his first job at the Ochoco Inn as a bellhop. They later moved to Dayville, Ore., where he met Jody Garrison and later married in 1956, and had their four sons. He worked for Driskill Fish Farm in Dayville delivering fish. Moving back to Prineville in the late 60s, Bump worked throughout Oregon, he owned and operated Stafford Logging, and as a cattle rancher, and farmer. Bump married Candace McPhetridge in 1977, and they were married for 14 years. He also owned and operated Stafford chip yard, and Stafford Ranches. Bump was a hardworking man and took pride in his work and his family. Bump enjoyed golfing and snowmobiling; he was also an avid hunter and loved the outdoors. Bump loved to go and watch the rodeo and watch his sons and grandchildren rope. Bump mostly enjoyed spending time with his sons and grandchildren. He was a member at the Prineville Elk's Lodge. He will be missed greatly by many, many family and friends. Bump is survived by his four sons, Mark Stafford of Prineville, Milt and his wife, LaDonna Stafford of Culver, Samuel Stafford of Powell Butte, and Michael and his wife, Amy Stafford of Prineville; brothers, Curtis Stafford, Luther Stafford, and Joe Stafford — all of Arkansas; twelve grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Cecil and Jack Stafford, and a granddaughter Hope. Arrangements are in the care of the Prineville Funeral Home.
