William Stafford III pursued farming as an occupation, In the early 1680;s he married Jane Brown and they had eight known children: John Abt 1685, Edward, Abt 1687, William, About 1689, Samuel, Abt 1690, Ann, Frances, Mary, and Jane. By 1700 William Stafford III and Jane Brown had moved to Old Currituck County, NC where William died in 1728. To his sons, John and Edward, he left one shilling; to his son, William, he bequeathed, "the plantation where I now live." Will. Item: I give to my son Samuel Stafford three hundred acres of land - the remainder part of the tract which I gave to my son William, two cows and calves and their female increases for ever, two ewes and lambs, one iron pot holding eight gallons, two pewter dishes, one pair of ----, one new table, one couch, one chest and one pair of millstones, only reserving the ewes of the said---to my son William during his natural life Item: I give to my daughter Mary Stafford and my daughter Jane Stafford each of them five pounds current money of North Carolina-------likeways my will and pleasure is that my son William and Samuel Stafford shall not sell nor dispose of any part or parcel of land whatsoever which I give them in this will but to descend from heir to heir for ever.
