CISCO -- Elaine Sorrels, 78, of Abilene, formerly of Cisco, died
Saturday, March 27, 2004 in Hendrick Medical Center. Memorial services
will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 30, 2004 at First United Methodist
Church in Cisco, officiated by Reverend Gary Turner and Reverend Shane
Drue. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery directed by Kimbrough Funeral
Home.
Mrs. Sorrels was born June 10, 1925 in Sour Lake, Texas to Theodore
and Jessie (Stafford) Chachere. She graduated from Corpus Christi High
School in 1942. She married Herman Calvert Sorrels, Jr. on March 19, 1947
in Corpus Christi; he preceded her in death October 8, 2000. She was a
homemaker and a member of First United Methodist Church of Cisco and an
associate member of St. James United Methodist Church of Abilene.
She is survived by daughters, Marie Blair and husband Neal of Rock
Port, Sherry Wright and husband Billy of Cisco; brothers, T.W. Chachere
and wife Eva of Portland, Jack Chachere and wife Helen of Hattiesburg,
Mississippi; sister, Dorothy Daughtery of Houston; sister-in-law, Ethel
Duarante and husband Hank of Anaheim, California; grandchildren, Laura
Lea Lanier of Portland, Sherry Marie Pottinger and husband Jeff of Rock
Port, Ann Marie Williams and husband Ryan of Farwell, ReBecca Lea
Heidelberg and husband Brad of Midland; great-grandchildren, Devin Neal
Lanier, Aaron Luke Lanier, Katelyn Eliane Hicks, Alexis Diane Pottinger,
and Erica Grace Williams.

"Funeral services for Mrs. Victor E. Hunter, 52, of 4245 Delmar, a retired registered nurse, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Church of the Incarnation. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Mrs. Hunter died here Saturday. She was a Fort Worth native and came to Dallas to attend Baylor Nursing School, from which she was graduated with a registered nurse's degree.

She lived in Dallas 35 years and was a public health nurse in the infant division of the Community Chest and a nurse in the Dallas schools when she retired in 1950.

She was a member of the Red Cross Home Defense group, the Church of the Incarnation and the Thursday Hobby Club.

Survivors; Husband; a son, Victor E. Hunter, Jr. of Dallas; a daughter, Mrs. J. M. McGowan of Mesquite; two brothers, Darius Stafford of Fort Worth and Marvin Stafford of Columbus, Ohio, and two granddaughters."

SOUTH DURHAM – Relatives and friends in this district and other parts of the Eastern Townships were grieved to learn of the passing of Senator George Carroll Stafford, of Laconia, N.H., who died after a brief illness on Thursday, May 3rd, at the age of sixty-three years. Senator Stafford's grandparents, his mother, nee Selina Smith, and his wife, nee Regina Whittaker, were all former residents of this place. He has many cousins in South Durham, various parts of the Eastern Townships and Kamloops and Dewdney, B.C. Senator Stafford had been a resident of Laconia for fifty-seven years. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Lavinia Stafford; one son, Roger, of Cleveland, OH; two daughters, Mrs. Bessie L. Dillahunt, of Minneapolis, MN, and Mrs. Beulah F. Rohrer, of Springfield, and two grandchildren, Martha and Katherine Stafford, both of Cleveland, OH.
The body was taken to the Coffman Funeral Home, where services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday [15 Feb 1935]. Burial will be made in Glen Haven Memorial Park."

Mrs. Stafford was bom in Winchester Ky., Nov. 20, 1853. She was married to Thomas M. Stafford of Louisville, Sept 28,1869. They moved to Florida in 1884 and homesteaded in the vicinity of Inverness. They moved to Lee County in 1901. Mr. Stafford died in 1910. Since 1930, Mrs. Stafford has made her home with her daughter here. Survivors besides Mrs. Martin are two sons, J.L. Stafford and T.R. Stafford, of Dayton, Tennessee. There are 10 grandchildren including Mrs. C. Samuel Johnson, Orlando; John D. Martin, Fort Myers; Mrs. Roscoe Ewing, Las Cruces, N.M.; Mrs. Les Trafton, and Mrs. C.R. Freeman, Jr. St. Petersburg, and Mrs. Ralph Reed, Clearwater. William Stafford, Tampa, Mrs. Hubert Hill, Chattanooga, Mrs. Zora Lee Buxton, Tampa, and Mrs. Ralph Hamlin, Tallahassee. There are 10 great grandchildren.
