101216 | Mrs. Ruth Margaret Stafford, age 89, Limestone, passed away Friday, July 9, 2010, at the Johnson City Medical Center. Mrs. Stafford was a native of Washington County and daughter of the late H.P. & Estelle Dotson Squibb. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Stafford was also preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, A.J. Stafford; one son, Terry Stafford; two infant brothers; and a brother, Carl Squibb. She was a member of Oakland Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday School Class. Mrs. Stafford was a member of Bowmantown Home Demonstration Club, enjoyed playing rook, camping with her husband, A.J., and going to the Jonesborough Senior Citizens Center. She was a substitute teacher for the Washington County School System. She was an election worker for Washington County for over 50 years and was a proud Democrat. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Kathy & Gippy Martin, Limestone; grandchildren, Jeff Martin, special grandchild Melony Martin and Greg Stafford; great-grandchildren, Kelsey & Kamryn Martin, Abigail & Adam Stafford; brother, Freddy Squibb; daughter-in-law, Connie Stafford; sister-in-law, Stella Hodges; many cousins, several nephews, nieces, many friends and 89 ducks & geese. The family will receive friends from 1:00-3:00 p.m. Sunday, July 11, 2010, at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow at Oakland Cemetery with Pastor Robert Grimes. 101217 | MRS. SAM SMITH DIES Samantha Jane Stafford was born at Alanthus Grove, Missouri, October 15, 1859 and passed away Saturday, September 20, 1941 at the age of 81 years, 11 months, and 25 days. Mrs. Smith lived her girlhood in and around Alanthus Grove. She was married to Samuel Livingston Smith, September 30, 1878 and to this union were born seven children, namely, Clem, who preceeded his mother in death on January 29, 1939; Alva of Los Angeles, California; Mrs. Hattie Finigan of Oceanlake, Oregon; Jess of Klamath Falls, Oregon; Mrs. Rose Pickett of Los Angeles, California; Mrs. Pearl Hurich of Des Moines, Iowa; and Mrs. Myrtle Lauritson of Hamburg. Mr. Smith preceded her in death two years ago. At an early age, she united with the Methodist Church and was a faithful follower to the end. Mr. and Mrs. Smith lived in this community more than 50 years and she will be greatly missed by old friends and relatives. Funeral services were held at the Mansfield Funeral Home on Tuesday at 2 p.m., conducted by Rev. D.N. Gillett. Mr. And Mrs. William Rageth, Sr. sang two beautiful songs. In memoranda made in 1656, by Benedict Arnold and found among his old family papers, stated "My father (William Arnold) and his family sett sayle from Dartmouth in old England, the first of May and arrived in New England June 24, 1635. On board was Stukely Wescott 48 of Yeovil and his wife with children Robert, Damaris, Samuel 13, Amos 4, Mercy and Jeremiah. 101229 | Mrs. Wanda M. Clark, 92, of Greenup passed away at 6:49 a.m. Sunday, June 27, 2010, at her home. Funeral services celebrating Wanda's life will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Bishop Funeral Home, Greenup, with Pastor Brooke Davis officiating. Burial will be in Greenup Cemetery. Wanda was born on March 9, 1918, in Monroe City, IN, the daughter of Leland and Ruth (Cain) Stafford. She married Berl E. Clark in June 1985. Wanda was a homemaker and enjoyed working on the farm. Wanda is survived by loving husband, Berl E. Clark of Greenup; stepchildren, Harold (Patty) Clark of Dalton City, Johnnie (Karen) Clark of Knoxville, TN, Lloyd Clark of Decatur, Carl (Diana) Clark of Mount Zion, Dean Clark of Decatur; brother, Donald K. Stafford of Wheatland, IN; 13 stepgrandchildren; 12 great-stepgrandchildren; two nieces, Diana Russell of Wheatland, IN and Tina Beaman of Robinson; three nephews, Doug Stafford of Vincennes, IN, Dexter Stafford of Washington, IN and Dennis Stafford of Wheatland, IN; six great-nieces; four great-nephews; and three great-great-nieces. 101230 | Mrs. William Swarts, 65, of 229 East Walnut Street, Titusville, died at the Titusville City Hospital Saturday morning after an illness of several months. Mrs. Swarts was a member of St. James Episcopal Church, Titusville and was active in its several societies. She also belonged to the Titusville Womans Club and the Protected Home Circle. She is survived by her husband; one son, William Jr., of Forest Hills, N.Y., and a daughter, Miss Elizabeth Swarts of Meadville. Three sisters also survive - Mrs. Edward Stebbins, Akron; Mrs. V.L. Wood and Miss Edna Stafford, Meadville.
