14532 | aily Review on May 6, 2014 John "Jack" Stafford Vaughn, 89, of Athens Township, Pa., formerly of Seven Lakes, N.C., passed away Friday, May 2, 2014 at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pa. "Jack" as he was known by his family and many friends was born in Sayre on April 28, 1925 the son of Truman and Anna Stafford Vaughn. He was a graduate of Sayre High School class of 1943 and later served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Lexington in the South Pacific during World War II. Jack was employed as a draftsman for the Ingersoll-Rand Tool & Hoist Division from 1946 to 1956. In 1957, he began working in the Management & Development Division and eventually served as manager of product engineering. Jack held eight patents to his credit. Following his retirement in July of 1982, Jack and his wife Lois Wood Vaughn moved to Seven Lakes, N.C. Jack was a skilled woodworker and craftsman who operated his business, Wood by Vaughn, in Seven Lakes for many years. Jack was an avid golfer and had the extreme good fortune of achieving two separate holes-in-one. Jack enjoyed volunteering at the US Open at Pinehurst, N.C. He loved spending time with family and friends, and boating and sailing on Keuka Lake, N.Y. Jack moved back to Bradford County in 2008 to be near his family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois, on May 23, 2005. Jack was a life member of the Sayre Elks Lodge and was a member of Skiff-Bower VFW Post in Sayre. Surviving are his sister-in-law, Anna Wood of Athens Township; nieces, Cheryl Wood-Walter and husband, Gregory of Athens Township, Sharon VanFleet and husband Thomas of Athens Township, Charlene Wood Smith of Sullivanville, N.Y.; as well as several great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and dear friends in North Carolina. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, at the Alteri-Bowen Funeral Home, 314 Desmond St., Sayre, Pa. Sayre Elks Lodge will hold a Service of Remembrance at 6:30 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, May 10, 2014 at the Church of the Epiphany, South Elmer Ave., Sayre, Pa. Interment will follow in Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens, Pa. with the Valley Color Guard according full military honors. He graduated from Marion High School in Marion, NC in 1946 and Gaston College in Gastonia, NC in 1955. Mr. Stafford served his country in the United States Air Force. After his military service, he moved his family to Darlington in 1963, and went to work for Pyramid (NYTRONICS) for twenty years. He was then employed by Galey and Lord until his retirement. Mr. Stafford attended Trinity United Methodist Church in Darlington. Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Steve Petty of Darlington and Walhalla, SC, a son, Bill Stafford of Marion, SC, his granddaughter, Amanda Petty Nance and her husband Austin, three great-grandchildren, Harley, Dawson and Blayson, a brother, K.C. 14540 | Albert Montgomery Stafford, Jr., age 73, of Max Meadows, VA passed away Tuesday, November 15, 2016. He was born on June 15, 1943 in Pearisburg, VA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Jane Stafford; his wife, Barbara Coulson Stafford; and sister, Jane Ann Stafford Gibson. Albert was a member of the Wytheville Masonic Lodge #82, the Kazim Shrine Temple in Roanoke, VA and was retired from the Radford Army Ammunition Plant. Survivors include his children, Jennifer Stafford Smith and Chris, John Tickle Stafford and Katie, and Jason Daniel Stafford and Meranda, all; grandchildren, Sara Stafford, Caleb Stafford, Joe Stafford, Katie Smith, and Brandie Shrader; Haili Stafford, Logan Hawks; and special friend, Jean Ashworth Lambert. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 19, 2016 at Barnett Funeral Home with Elder Ronald Bowman officiating. He was a bachelor and a veterinarian assistant for Dr Harry Morgan, when he passed away on March 14, 1955 in Clarksville. Burial was the next day in Greenwood Cemetery.
